Frequently asked questions.

REGISTRATION

I’d like to register my child but I’m not sure they will like it.

Our Come & Try day is held in early February to give new players aged 5-10 years a chance to get a feel for the game of netball prior to the start of the registration period. For details of when our next Come & Try day is being held please check our Calendar or social media channels.

For players aged over 10 years, our Team Placement and Grading days offer a great chance to come along and meet other players and club members and get a feel for the game. All players attending Team Placement/Grading must have completed the Grading Registration before taking to court.

Can boys play?

Absolutely! Yanchep Netball Club offers a mixed competition for boys aged 7-12 years, and for 5-6 year olds we have our Net Skills Program.

How do I register?

Please refer to the Registrations link for details on how to register. All players must have completed their registration to be able to take to court. Registrations for the 2025 Winter Season close February 9.

GRADING

What does grading entail?

Set & Go

Players in the Set and Go age groups (Year 2 to Year 5) will attend a Team Placement afternoon where they will get a chance to partake in drills and game play in a fun and supportive environment. Players will be assessed on their ability and understanding of the game and placed in the most appropriate team available for them. This is to ensure our players are allocated to a team that best suits their skill level and fosters an inclusive and fun learning environment.

Players are to wear shorts or skirts (so that the lower leg remans visible), appropriate sports shoes, have their hair tied back, all jewellery removed and fingernails trimmed.

Year 6 – 18 years

Grading for players in Year 6 through to 18 years of age will occur over 4 sessions. Players are expected to attend all 4 sessions to enable our graders to develop an accurate understanding of each player’s skill level. Yanchep Netball Club employs independent, highly experienced selectors to complete team grading for this age group. This ensures results and placements remain unbiased and in the best interest of the players. For more information please head to our Grading page.

Players must wear black shorts or skirt (so that the lower leg remains visible) and a plain white top. Hair is to be tied back, jewellery removed, and fingernails trimmed.

There must be no coaching from parents/guardians on the sidelines and all siblings/parents/guardians must remain outside the court area during Squad Training and Grading sessions.

Please refer to our Registrations page for further information regarding Grading times/days and links to complete Registrations.

18 years – Opens

Players interested in playing in the U21 and Opens competitions are required to attend one Team Placement evening. Please head to the Registrations link for further information.

Any player unable to attend any of the Team Placement/Grading sessions needs to email the club as early as possible to advise of their non-attendance.

Can my child play with their friends?

At Yanchep Netball Club our aim is to provide each player with the best opportunities to enjoy their game and develop their love of netball. Players are assessed and placed into teams based on ability and experience. Sometimes this can mean players are placed into teams different to their friends, however it also ensures your child isn’t ending up in a competition that is either too developed and fast-paced for them or too slow for their level of experience. We trust our graders and selectors to make the best decisions based on the player’s ability, however we realise some kids can also find social situations that include too many new faces difficult. If you have genuine concerns over the placement of your child please email the club.

UNIFORMS

What do we wear?

All players must wear our club uniform for game days. For women/girls this consists of our Game Day Dress and for boys, our Training Shirt and plain black shorts. All women/girls are required to wear black shorties under their dresses and these must not be visible under the hem of the dress.

Set & Go players (Year 2 to Year 5) can wear a plain long-sleeve top and/or plain black leggings under their club uniforms for those cold and wintery games.

Where can I buy a uniform?

Uniforms are available for purchase from our Online store

We also have a second-hand page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/groups/247022167601780).

TRAINING & GAME TIMES

What days/times are trainings?

Training for all (Year 2 to 21U) teams takes place once per week and is compulsory for all players. Days/times are decided by the allocated coaches and will be communicated to teams prior to the commencement of the season. Failure to attend training (without a valid reason) will mean less court time for those players.

Training for Opens teams is at the decision of the team.

Do you offer a payment plan for registration fees?

Yes we do. We are more than happy to tailor a payment plan to suit our members, however due to the structuring of the PlayHQ system we can only payment plan the Yanchep Netball Club portion of fees. The Association and Netball WA portions of fees must be paid in full at the time of registration.

Why do I have to pay fees to Netball WA?

Netball WA fees cover players, coaches, umpires and officials for expenses incurred relating to an injury sustained on court and during training sessions. Please refer to the Netball WA website for more information regarding insurance cover.

Please remember the scorecard is an offical document. If a player sustains an injury during a game this must be recorded accurately on the scorecard, or the insurance can be voided.

KIDSPORT

Are you a Kidsport affiliated club?

Yes, Yanchep Netball Club is a Kidsport affiliated club. Please head to the kidsport website here to check your eligibility and for information on how to apply.

Please note: Kidsport applications can take up to 10 days to process so please allow for this time prior to the registration close date.

FUNDRAISING

Why do we have to fundraise?

Grassroots sporting clubs, such as YNC, rely on fundraising to help cover the costs of equipment, development opportunities and end-of-season presentations.

What is the Fundraising Levy?

The Fundraising Levy was introduced as an option for busy parents & guardians that may not have the time or desire to sell chocolate boxes. The Fundraising Levy is a one-off $30 payment per family, per year. Those members who do no wish to be out-of-pocket for their fundraising contribution have the option of selling the Cadbury Fundraiser chocolates at the rate of one box per family.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

What is TACT?

TACT stands for Talented Athlete and Coach Training and is offered by Wanneroo Districts Netball Association as a development pathway for athletes 12 years + and coaches. Please see the WDNA website for further information.
